Top Navigation Apps in the UK: Q3 2024 Performance Overview

In the third quarter of 2024, the United Kingdom's navigation and maps app market showcased intriguing trends across the top five applications, as reported by Sensor Tower. Notably, Google Maps maintained a strong presence with weekly downloads peaking at around 91.8K in mid-July and gradually tapering to approximately 72.4K by the end of September. The app's active user base remained robust throughout the quarter, hovering around 9.7M to 10M.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic demonstrated a consistent performance in downloads, with numbers rising to about 80.6K in mid-August before settling at 60.5K by the end of September. The app's active users exhibited a slight fluctuation, initially climbing to around 3.8M in August and closing the quarter at approximately 3.4M.

The unique navigation tool what3words: Navigation & Maps saw weekly downloads peak at 60.3K in mid-July, followed by a gradual decrease to 32.9K by the end of September. Active users showed a similar trend, with numbers reaching around 193K in mid-July and declining to approximately 157K in the last week of September.

Google Earth maintained a steady download rate, starting the quarter with about 34.6K downloads and ending with 29.5K. The app's active users experienced a slight decline from 285K to 251K over the quarter.

Lastly, myRAC experienced varying download rates, peaking at 18.4K in early August and fluctuating to 14.1K by the end of September. Active user numbers grew to 28.1K in early August before decreasing to 25.5K by the quarter's end.
